Episode 81: The Weirdest Research of the Year

In this episode, Dr. Junaid takes a delightful detour from the usual pressures of clinical practice to explore the quirky, joyful side of science through the Ig Nobel Prizes, real research that first makes you laugh, then makes you think. He walks through some of this year’s winners as well as some for the past, including a 1977 study on the aerodynamics of nose-blowing that every physician has unknowingly referenced, a psychology paper revealing why we love friends who are vicious to our enemies, and Italian research suggesting pizza might actually protect against illness, if it’s made and eaten in Italy. This episode reminds us that reclaiming that sense of wonder, the kind that got us into medicine before the inbox took over, is worth protecting. This week’s challenge: find the answer to one question you want to know, just because you want to know it, and let yourself have fun with it.
